BICYCLE ACCIDENT January 14th 2009

Dear family and friends:

I am sending each of you an e-mail because you are on Cindy's e-mail list so each of y0u can have the latest information on her accident today. I don't know all of you. Some of you have already heard about her accident. Some of you have called inquiring about how she is doing. We really appreciate your expressions of love and support and especially your prayers. I have not been able to speak to everyone because I have spent most of the evening calling close relatives and people who are helping at home. I know Cindy would like each of you to know how she is doing and not to hear about it second-hand, so the easiest way to deal with this situation I decided was to send a broadcast em-mail, explaining it as if you did not know any thing about what happened.

I don't want to alarm any of you too much, so I'll start by saying that she fractured her spine (compression fracture of the V6 vertebrae). So far (keep praying), we don't think she will require surgery, but she will be in the hopital for a few days and is in a lot of pain. She had an MRI to night, but I w0n't know the results until tomorrow morning. The prognosis so far is that she will be laid up 2-3 months but will gradually be able to do more and more. She will be laid up in bed pretty much for several weeks. She has a large abrasion on the right side of her face, but that should heal over time.

Her injuries were the result of a mountain biking accident this morning. She completed most of the ride with about 5 other riders, when she hit a bump in the trail the wrong way, which sent her flying over the front handle bars, after which her memory is blank. She received immediate expert attention from an EMT who was riding with the group and paramedics were on the scene quickly. Because they were at least a half-mile from any road and she had a back injury, the paramedics decided to med-evac her by helicopter. She is receiving excellent care and expert medical attention at Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo.

I have told Cindy not to worry about anything at home. That I just want her to have time to heal properly. Duncan Taylor and I will be giving her a priesthood blessing tomorrow. We have received many kind offers of support and assistance and prayers. We really appreciate it ALOT. I never realized how many great friends Cindy had until she got hurt. We are touched and amazed. THAN YOU TO ALL OF YOU.

At this point, I have two request of those wanting to show support: (1) Your prayers mean a great deal to us and I know that they will help her to deal with the pain and to heal faster and better, (2) for those in a position to do so, if you would like to visit her in the hsopital, she is located at Room 371 at Mission hospital.

Unfortunately, I don't expect that she will be able to answer e-mail for some time. I will monitor her e-mail and let her know of any messages of support from any of you

THANK YOU TO EACH OF YOU FOR BEING A PART OF HER LIFE AND A BLESSING IN HER LIFE AS SHE IS SUCH A WONDERFUL BLESSING IN EACH OF OUR LIVES.

Love,

The Hoffman Family
